Even though for reaching winter there is still a long way to go, we want to be cautious and to bring you a little bit of cold air 🌬. Relax, we do that just to convince you that Mallorca is the perfect destination regardless of the month/season.
Firstly, it’s important to mention that Mallorca in the middle of the winter is a unique destination, full of possibilities that will seduce you and win your heart. And that the island is generally known globally for the sun, sand, sea, and the wide range that makes available for us in summer.
The Sierra de Tramuntana
Can you imagine being in Mallorca and seeing medieval villages surrounded by snow? Well this happens in the coldest days of the year, in the Sierra de la Tramuntana.
As if out of a wall protecting the island on its northwest side, this mountain rises. Its importance is such that it was declared a World Heritage Site in 2011 in the category of Cultural Landscape. The fusion of Mediterranean nature and the traditional agricultural landscape offer the visitor a unique experience and an indescribable satisfaction.
Many of the villages along the Sierra de Tramuntana were a refuge for artists and great people for centuries. Some, like Valldemossa, Deia, Sóller, Andratx or Pollença are a must visit. Between Valldemossa and Deià there are two farms that can be visited: the Monastery of Miramar and Son Marroig, with impressive views of Sa Foradada and which was property of the Archduke Luis Salvador of Austria. In the middle of the Sierra there is the Lluc Sanctuary. It is the most important sanctuary in Mallorca and where the Verge de Lluc is venerated, as we explained a few days ago.
Valldemossa is one of the most charming villages in Mallorca, a small medieval village surrounded by pine trees, olive trees and almond trees. This is the perfect village of the Mediterranean interior of steep streets, stone houses and flower pots. In the Royal Charterhouse of Valldemossa, a monastery of the fourteenth century, lived the famous Polish pianist Frédéric Chopin. There he lived during the winter of 1838 accompanied by his lover the writer George Sand, author of “A Winter in Mallorca” and his children, to try to improve the poor health of the pianist.
The Cape Formentor
It is another essential corner when doing tourism in Mallorca. And one of the advantages of visiting this corner in winter is not having to face the overcrowding that can suffer in summer. The road to the headland is full of curves, with areas that even give vertigo, full of uneven road portions. However, it is worth reaching the Cape
From the viewpoint, located 232 meters high, you can admire spectacular views of the sea, the cliffs and the islet of Colomer. Another point with very good views is the Atacuaro de Albercuix, built in the sixteenth century to defend against pirates, with great views of the Cape of Formentor.
Beaches and practically empty coves
Any time of the year is good to get close to discover some of the most spectacular beaches and coves in the world. Yes, we have said of the world. Even in autumn or winter, it is well worth knowing them.
Some have gained international fame, such as Sa Calobra, located in the Serra de la Tramontana (which must be accessed by a winding road, as famous as the cove). Another spectacular beach in the Serra is the beach of Pi de sa Posada, known as Playa de Formentor.
The Es Trenc beach is one of the few remaining virgin beaches in Mallorca. With fine white sand and turquoise waters. Platja de Muro, with transparent waters and turquoise blue, is next to Alcúdia and has almost virgin areas.
Other beaches and coves highly recommended are Cala Major and Cala Estancia. Incredible places, white sand where you can walk and admire its beauty even though we are in the middle of winter. Remember that most of the year is sunny in Mallorca!
We are your hotel in Mallorca, and we can recommend the most suitable ways to visit everything that interests you. This is an island full of options at your disposal, so many that, (as it is said here) You will certainly not finish them.
If you are planning your trip to the Balearic Islands, this is your blog, whether you want to visit the center of the city, with the Cathedral of Palma, or the promenade, or lose yourself in more special places, such as the Caves of Drach or the Castillo de Bellver, this is the web you need. Stay tuned!
