The traditional recipes combined with natural ingredients from the island makes some dishes that you will never forget! All of the island’s cuisine is based on items fresh from the garden, locally raised pork and the many varieties of fish present in the sea. It is a purely Mediterranean diet, with a special touch that distinguishes it from the rest. In order to understand it, you have to try it but till then, let me present you four typical Mallorcan foods which you will love it!!! The first one will be the Mallorcan escargot – those who enjoy snails will find particular delight in this traditional seafaring dish.
These are served, moreover, with potatoes and a broth made of parsley, garlic, fennel, mint and chili. Delicious, right?! Because in the previous article I told you about a few preparations made from rice, here you have another one! Arros Brut is a rice in hot broth that is prepared in a clay pot with meat, sausages, vegetables, spices and mushrooms, although these ingredients can change depending on the season.
The rice acquires a darker color which has led to the name “dirty rice” or arros brut in Mallorcan. Is yummy!! Another one is the Mallorcan roast suckling pig. Mallorca is home to a particular breed of pigs used commonly in many traditional dishes. In this case, the roast suckling pig is prepared only to be served during important holidays and other special occasions.
So, if you’re already there, you must try it! The last and the oldest is the Mallorcan frito! Legend has it that, this recipe has existed since the 15th century, making it one of the oldest one from the island. Although it can be accompanied by fish or vegetables, traditionally frito is made with lean pork or lamb.
To this is added: potatoes, red peppers, scallions, peas, garlic, olive oil, fennel and salt. This preparation is also a must! If you’re going to visit the island and don’t want to miss its true flavor, these are the typical Mallorcan dishes you must sample. You will love it!
