Today’s article will be dedicated to art. An interesting exhibition is being held in Es Baluard and we strongly recommend you to visit it.

First and foremost, you have to know that the museum is located in the center of Palma, in Porta Santa Catalina Square, no. 10. It is a central place, therefore, you won’t have to go much by foot, and you will also have a nice walk through the busy and beautiful streets from the center of the Mallorcan capital.

Es Baluard – at a glance

In the previous articles we have talked about this museum so there is nothing new under the sun for you, yet. This is why, in today’s entry we will speak about a very specific exhibition that began in February and runs until June 2. It is a reality thanks to the curatorship of Pilar Bonet, supported by her research team, made up of Albert Salvador and Victoria de Lorenzo.

The collection of Es Baluard Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Palma, located in the former defensive bastion of Sant Pere (a building of the sixteenth century) collects works of the main artists and confluenting movements in the Balearic Islands from the early twentieth century up to the present and it links them with national or international artistic contexts.

What’s all about?

This exhibition project is part of the cycle of thematic samples that emerge from the context itself, this time focused on spirituality. Therefore, the exhibition presents an unpublished sample based on the circle of women, mediums and artists, many unclassifiable, some very well known and others totally unpublished that moved between mediumship, mysticism, healing and spiritist philosophy, marking in this way a new reading of feminisms. A unique and original vision, innovative at a European level, since we had never been able to observe this work globally up to the present.

The artists that make up the sample are: Julia Aguilar, Aloïse Corbaz, Käthe Fischer, Madge Gill, Mary Frances Heaton, Margarethe Held, Gertrude Honzatko-Mediz, Nina Karasek, Emma Kunz, Cecilie Marková, Hélène Reimann, Jane Ruffié, Clara Schuff, Hélène Smith, Josefa Tolrà, Agatha Wojciechowsky and Anna Zemánková.

Hope you’ll enjoy this wonderful exhibition!
