Don’t visit Mallorca without eating there. :))) Actually, don’t visit the Castell dโ€™ Alaro without eating at the Es Verger restaurant. ๐Ÿ˜€ Best known as “the lamb restaurant”, Es Verger is a rustic establishment halfway up the Puig de Alaro mountain, offering typical Mallorcan cuisine. ๐Ÿ™‚ As I mentioned in the previous article, the restaurant is halfway up a mountain, just underneath Alaro Castle and besides its delicious food, from here you will get truly spectacular views. ๐Ÿ˜› The location is authentically rustic, with agricultural implements decorating the walls and the delicious aroma of wood-smoke and roasting meat from the oven, it perfectly complements how it is furnished. When it comes to the food, the lamb shoulder “paletilla de cordero” is your reason to come. ๐Ÿ™‚ Itโ€™s succulent and satisfying, served with tiny roast potatoes and a very basic salad โ€“ perfect after a long walk. If you arrive after 14:00h you may find itโ€™s sold out, so plan to get there in good time for this star dish. ๐Ÿ˜€ This is really an ideal spot for the ones who love the lamb, although if you prefer seafood, the giant prawns are delicious, well priced and worth a try. ๐Ÿ™‚ If meat is not your thing, it may be worth just opting for the delicious traditional Mallorcan homemade almond cake. Is mouth-watering! ๐Ÿ˜€ To work up an appetite or to work off some of the calories, head further up the mountain side to Alaro castle which sits perched on top. It is a bit of a climb, so even if you make it part way up you can enjoy walking through olive groves and looking down for miles around. The route starts off as a rough wide track and then turns into more of a defined path. If you reach the castle there are 360 degree views to reward your efforts. A trip to Es Verger and Alaro Castle makes for a memorable day out with sweeping views, authentic local food and a challenging drive – something you will all be talking about for long after the holiday. ๐Ÿ™‚
