For those who would love to spend their holidays being active, Mallorca has many opportunities for you: if you like adrenaline and you’re searching for some adventure as a little hiking or biking during your upcoming holiday on the island, Puig de Randa is a destination not to be missed. 😀 More exactly, Randa is a village and nearby hermitage, located in the municipality of Algaida and famous for its long history of easy climb/cycling and also famed for other reasons, such as being the site of the first hermitage on the island, its sensational views from the summit, as well as the enchanting trails that lead you to the top. 🙂

This small hermitage was founded by Ramon Llul, who founded the sanctuary and consequently spent his remaining years within it, in complete isolation. 🙂 Today, visitors can explore the remains of the structure and see some of Llul’s original manuscripts. The trip can be started on foot from Algaida, passing through Castellitx, where daytrippers can visit the beautiful Ermita de la Pau (Peace Hermitage) and Predio de Albenya (Albenya Estate).

From there the route heads up to Cura, at the summit of Randa mountain, from where you can see the whole of flat Mallorca and Palma bay. 😀 The chapels of Sant Honorat and Nuestra Señora de Gracia (15th century) can also be visited on the descent towards Randa. Therefore, the tour can last about 2.5 hours and takes you to three monasteries: Santuari de la Gràcia, Santuari de Sant Honorat and Santuari de Cura. So, if you’re looking to take in some spectacular scenery whilst staying in one of our holiday villas in Mallorca, a hike to the top of this impressive hill is the answer. 🙂

On a clear day, you can see near enough all of the island, ranging from the capital of Palma to the sprawling Tramuntana mountains and just about everything in between. A lot of people believe that these incredible views are best enjoyed from the cafe, also found at the top of the island. These being said, wherever you’ll stay, you won’t be far from the Puig de Randa (sometimes called Randa Hill). And if you are looking to explore a little of the island’s history whilst enjoying what are often hailed as the best views of Mallorca, a trip to the top is certainly called for. 🙂
