As I remember, in my first articles I have told you about the famous and pretty town named Alcudia. Today it will be about an awesome and famous celebration, another reason why this town is so great. Therefore, if you are already in vacation, you have to know about the most interesting event held every year, in the spring/summer time and more precisely, in the course of tomorrow.

If you didn’t knew, Mallorca’s markets are an excellent way to get to know the island, the locals and it’s the ideal place to purchase some original Mallorcan products. Alcúdia market is one of the most important on the island due to its atmosphere and the wide variety of products.

In these picturesque, colourful and multi-ethnologic places you’ll find nearly everything – from basic food products to the ultimate trend, all in a familiar relaxed atmosphere. The high, old walls of Alcudia and the charming town centre within is worth to visit in their own right, but there is more to see and do on market day. The market spreads out through the old town, inside the walls and near the Roman city of Pollentia.  For many holidaymakers there’s nothing better than soaking up the atmosphere of a bustling market whilst mulling over handicrafts or sampling some of the local products. The most popular markets with tourists are Alcudia Market, Inca Market and Puerto Pollensa market, but the smaller ones are just as atmospheric such as those listed. Simple and fun is the motto of this place and is worth a visit to sample the small variety on offer.

The markets in Mallorca are an excellent place to shop for flowers, fruits, vegetables and local products such as Mallorcan sobrassada or butifarron and cheese. There are usually also market stalls offering handicrafts, leather bags, handmade jewellery, accessories and clothes, as well offering a wonderful opportunity to try local specialities in Mallorca (most markets in and around Mallorca tend to sell a little of everything).

If you are interested to see, try to arrive before 10.30 am because many markets are all finished and packed up by 1.30 pm (most of them in Mallorca are held in the morning).  There’s a bus line linking Port d’Alcúdia with Alcúdia centre every 15 minutes so there is no excuse not to get there. There are also taxis and horse carriage services, however you can always take the car as parking is easy.

One of the fabulous things about Mallorca is that the markets on the island are alive, thriving with romantic scents and full of small pleasant surprises waiting to be discovered at every step. As you would imagine Palma has a number of markets on various days of the week. Many are working  ones selling fresh products. The quality is amazing and you will find everything is sold at very reasonable prices.

Most of the them have cafe areas indoor and outdoor where you can enjoy a snack or a drink from one of the stalls. Enjoy with your family an unforgettable morning having a stroll in the old town of Alcudia and find the most original gifts at the Alcudia Market. I strongly encourage you to take a visit to a local market when you visit Mallorca. It will certainly enhance your experience of the very best that Mallorca has to offer. PS : For a great way to cool off, I suggest you to buy a home made ice cream from the small hut at the bottom of the square. With so many different flavours it will be a true battle to choose just a couple!
