A winter in Mallorca? What could be more romantic? ๐Ÿ™‚ Well.. to escape northern Europe and seek solace in the mountains, vineyards and citrus groves of one of the most beautiful islands in the Mediterranean. ๐Ÿ˜€ If you ask me, I can say that it’s all very well thought out when it comes to this island, as a sun-and-sangria holiday destination but if your imagination hasn’t ever moved beyond the high-rise resorts of Magaluf and the rest – well, you should really think again. ๐Ÿ™‚ Because this Balearic island is so much more than that!! ๐Ÿ˜€ This corner of heaven has the three high Cs: City life, Country pleasures and Culture. Amazing, right? ๐Ÿ™‚ Naturally, the holiday starts in old Palma, a relatively small area of narrow streets, lovely shops, good restaurants, cafes and plenty of atmosphere. You can easily spend a whole day in Palma exploring its narrow streets, admiring the ancient buildings and those in the early 20th Century art nouveau style, wandering through its art galleries and just people-watching at its pavement restaurants. But when it comes to the last both “Cs”, the country pleasures and its culture makes this place a must visit. So, here you have three of the most awesome villages that will make your time in Mallorca unforgettable.

  • Alcudia
Alcudia is a medieval walled town 60 kilometres north of Palma, a 40-minute drive or just over an hour on the bus. It’s picturesque, lively and rich in history. The best days to visit are Tuesdays and Sundays when there’s a large bustling market from 08:30 to 13:30 selling everything from leather goods to souvenirs, clothes, jewellery and vegetables, which winds through the narrow streets along the striking Roman wall and under the Roman gate. For those wanting to discover more about the history of Alcudia, visit the Roman Remains of Pollentia and the Roman theatre.

  • Valldemossa
The Serra de Tramuntana mountains are the setting for some of the most picture postcard villages on the island, among them Valldemossa. It lies 18 kilometres north of Palma or half an hour on the bus. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Soller
Ask a local for their opinion on the best villages in Mallorca and Soller will always be in their top three. It’s popular with day trippers as you can catch a vintage train from Palma (โ‚ฌ30 round trip including the tram to from Soller to Port de Soller) which gives you a chance to enjoy the spectacular Serra de Tramuntana landscape.

Enjoy your trips! ๐Ÿ˜€
