Best five things to do & see in Palma

If you’re heading to Mallorca this summer, Palma – the island’s capital should be on your list for exploring. With a cosmopolitan atmosphere, an impressive gastronomic scene and plenty of places to see, the city is a must when you’re visiting the island. There is so much to see and do in Palma that one day is hardly enough time to explore all that the capital city has to offer. Palma’s intense and long history, coastal location and mild weather means that there are plenty of monuments, buildings, museums and street corners worth exploring as well as lots of activities to take part in. I’ve made a top five best things to see and do while you’re here so you don’t miss out anything. Because is summer time, I will start telling you about how you can enjoy your first day here.

 

•  The first thing to do is to explore the coastline from a completely different angle going to Mallorca’s waters on a boat trip. It’s a great way to work on your tan whilst viewing the epic coastline.

•  As a second one, if you’ll spend the day in Palma’s old town, then try the neighbourhood of Santa Catalina in the evening. With its authentic charm and lively atmosphere, it’s a great place to spend a few hours indulging in some delicious food and drinks. This is the trendy area of town with some first class international and local cuisine which attracts a whole host of people from other places.

• You don’t have to miss the Bellver Castle, one of the few circular castles in Europe. You’ll be rewarded for the vigorous climb up with spectacular views over the city and the Bay of Palma. After so much effort, spoil yourself with some tasty food, the Mallorcan capital being home to the best food in the Balearics with innovative dishes served with aplomb at restaurants around the city.

•  Give Aromata a try for a pared down menu of traditional Mallorcan dishes, such as quince salad with goats cheese or casseroled veal cheeks from local chef Andreu Genestra, set in a lovely stone courtyard in Sa Nostra Cultural Centre.

• Many Spanish islands have an idyllic, uninhabited islet on which to conjure your most vivid romantic fantasies about lost treasure and/or mermaids: Cabrera is Mallorca’s answer to this. Cabrera National Park is a must and the fifth place to visit from my list. This place actually forms several islands off the coast of Mallorca.

Shimmering depths of blue ocean surround deserted white shores that feel a million miles from the resorts of the south coast, but only around 17 kilometres from La Colonia de Sant Jordi. There’s an activity to suit every taste here, from bird-watching to plunging into deep pool of the Blue Grotto; most boat tours will include at least one beach stop and you can rent snorkel gear to make the most of those crystal clear waters. If you need some rest and relaxation (after so much ride), get a massage or a whole new look because there are some great places in Palma ready to pamper you for the day.
