In the south of Mallorca, 17km south of the town called Llucmajor, we find this beautiful place named Cala Pi, secluded between two amazing rocky cliffs. This location it is about 40 km from central Palma, even though it is in a neighbouring municipality. Most exactly, Cala Pi is a quiet, natural harbor on the south coast in the district of Lluchmayor and approximately 40-minutes drive from the airport of Son Sant Joan. Is the earliest known settlement in Mallorca, which ironically remains one of the most un-spoilt locations on the island.

The area is formed where the Torrent de Cala Pi meets the sea, its name coming from a river that flows directly on the beach and also from the many pine trees that surrounds it. It is therefore embraced by greenery, pine trees and bushes, which makes it a little wild. As I mentioned above, Cala Pi has also a beautiful beach sandwiched between two natural cliff sides. This idyllic location is the perfect choice for peace, quiet and relaxation with an ideal beach, that has golden sand and turquoise water glistening between those two rocky cliffs. Sounds good, isn’t it?

You also must know that the beach is quite small (around 50meters, although it stretches back some 100 metres into the torrent), the coastline is quite deep and the sand is very soft and golden. The sea is quite calm and above all, transparent, making it ideal not only for adult relaxation, but also for the children, who are not in danger of being caught by waves too dangerous for them. There is also a row of little huts used to store yachts or boats.

Therefore, even if it is not a well known beach to most tourists, it may be hard to find a place where to put your towel if you visit in July or August, so try and come early if you can. If you visit at any other time of the year, you should not have any problems. Don’t worry if you don’t have a car, you can take bus 525 from central Palma’s Estacio. Cala Pi is likely to be the first choice for those who simply wish to get away from it all. Once you have rested on the beach you might try your hand at sailing, or watersports or hiking and biking in the surrounding countryside. You will love this place!
