Mallorca is only a couple of hours flight for most of Europe and this accessibility combined with the natural beauty and the climate makes it a perennially popular choice. Beside that the amazing experience that you’ll live in this place it doesn’t compare with anything. As a great example, this month the lovers of classical music can join to the International Music Festival in Deià if they are traveling in Mallorca. Starting with its beautiful history, the Deià International Music festival has taken place in the gorgeous Son Marroig since 1978. It was the brainchild of a group of amateur and professional musicians who first got together to perform under the name of the Paramusical Workshop. As interest grew and local institutions added their support, the Deià International Music Festival was born.

The festival itself comprises of a broad array of concerts featuring numerous soloists, groups and composers from both Spain and as far abroad as New York, Moscow, London and Berlin. The quality and quantity of the guest artists has grown steadily over the years whilst at the same time providing the opportunity for local artists and the Baleric Symphony Orchestra with a performance platform. This has marked the humble beginnings of what is today known as the Deià International Music Festival. This year is the 39th of its kind and is considered one of the most prestigious music festivals on Mallorca. Besides the fact that it will be a brilliant evening, the venue for these concerts it will take place in the beautiful Son Marroig – one of the several country estates near Deià which belonged to the Austrian explorer Archduke Ludwig Salvador.

Son Marroig’s coastal location gives concertgoers the memorable opportunity to enjoy a performance of classical music with the backdrop of a glorious sunset. It is also one of the most stunning sights to see in the area. It’s an over 500-year-old stately home which once belonged ( as I mentioned above ) to the Austrian nobleman and voyager Archduke Ludwig Salvatore Lorena and Bourbon. It’s a beautiful building with spectacular sea views and is the ideal venue for chamber music with a capacity for just 200 people. As always there’s a wide variety of musical styles on offer with something to suit most of us and if you want to go you contact the organisers as early as possible as the numbers are limited. Here’s a list of the concerts, with ticket details below. Enjoy!
