Are you in Mallorca or arriving this weekend? Are you a wine lover? Let me tell you about four wonderful places where you can taste the best wines ever. Mallorca has around 70 wineries (bodegas) and in recent years many of the grape growers have opened their doors to the visitors. A well-publicised wine route is the Binissalem DO region encompassing the island’s central towns of Santa Maria del Camí, Consell, Binissalem, Sencelles and Santa Eugenia.

The” Wine routes” and visits to the wineries of Mallorca are growing in popularity every year amongst connoisseurs of fine wine and those who enjoy the Mediterranean pleasures. Thanks to the local wine producers who over the past few years have been opening their doors to the public are now offering to the visitors the opportunity to taste their wine and take guided tours of the winery. So, if you want to know more about this wine route, then read on! 🙂 I will start with one of my favorite place – Bodegas Antonio Nadal.

This one was established in 1968 and produces wines exclusively from grapes grown on their 27 hectares of vineyards. Bodegas Nadal was the first producer to obtain the DO Binissalem, in 1989. Since 2000, Magdalena Nadal Estela has been at the helm. The second one is Macià Batle vineyard located near Santa María del Camí that has been well-versed in the art of making wine from 1856. Since adopting the latest wine making techniques in the 21st century, this bodega has been producing some of the finest wines reinforced by the dozens of international awards they have received over the past 10 years.

There is a strong synergy between wine and art with this brand which is exhibited through the artistic labels on their wine bottles and the art on display at the gallery within the bodega. A wine tour and tasting here costs 10€ per person and includes delicatessen. The third one is the one and only Macia Batle. Its modern premises were built in 1998 but with a 150-year family heritage, has been cultivating vines in Biniali since 1865. Their widely exported quality wines are often award-winners.

Also, art plays an important role in this bodega: each year a local artist is selected to design the label for a special edition. The original works can be seen there. 😀 Reaching the last one, Vinya Taujana located in Santa Eugenia is as special as the other ones, winning the silver award in the 2013 Bacchus competition. 😛 The island of Mallorca is blessed with 300 days of sun a year; maybe this is the main reason why the vines and the wine stands out. There is nothing better than learning the culture of the places you visit and this list gives you the opportunity to become a Mallorcan wines expert! Enjoy!
