Now is the perfect time to travel and explore the tourist attractions because the summer time is when you really see the best of Mallorca! Hidden away in narrow stone streets, Santa Maria del Cami is a pretty little town in the north of Palma and can be reached from several roads. The town, usually known by locals as simply Santa Maria, is a bustling market town in the central area of Mallorca and also heads up a municipality which includes several surrounding villages.

Situated on a flat central plain with stunning views of the Tramuntana mountain range, it would be very easy to drive right on through, without realising what a special destination really is. The landscape around the town is dominated by expanses of wide open countryside, rich with almond and carob trees, vineyards and even today is liqueur and wine production that form the basis of the economy of this region. Santa Maria del Cami is a gateway to Mallorca’s wine country and is home to one of the island’s biggest names in wine, Bodegas Macia Batle.

The town of Santa Maria is known inside and outside the island by its textile production. Since the last three generations, the family Bujosa keeps working with linen. They manufacture fabrics of llengües, which are fabrics of cotton-linen and silk woven with a complex technique called picard, creating motives thanks to the coloration of the warp. More exactly, Santa Maria is home to one of the most impressive markets on the island and is a hub for local artisans and winemakers.

As well as cheerful local bars and cafes, there are also some very tempting options for visitors and international residents in search of a more luxury lifestyle. Beeing an authentic Mallorcan village with quaint stone houses and a lot of places to visit, when it comes to sophisticated and interesting things, Santa Maria is one of the best places in Mallorca to buy authentic local produce including: wine, food products, locally spun cloth plus hand-crafted international goods. Therefore, if you’re already here and you want some adrenalin, take a whole day for this gateway to the hills and the Tramuntana mountain range, that is perfect for walkers and cyclists. Both leisurely and challenging routes are accessible.

For relaxation and pampering you could also enjoy the pool and luxurious spa facilities at the well-known Reads Hotel. When it comes to food, as a lot of places from Mallorca, this village has a choice of many restaurants. For a unique gastronomy experience you might consider Bistro 19 by Livingdreams for fresh menu options using seasonal, locally produced food or the impressive a la carte menu at Molí des Torrent. Traveling in this place during the summer months is a convenient base to see what still remains of the undiscovered south of Mallorca, away from the over developed beach resorts and all night karaoke bars along the popular south coast. Discover its charming streets, restaurants and don’t miss the weekly market!
