It will be a vacation to remember for your whole life if you’ll choose to travel to Mallorca. Today it will be about a location that it appeals great to those that are seeking for a place to enjoy solitude, relaxation and amazing memories. For a perfect taste of Mallorca’s history and beauty, Sineu that lies right at the heart of the city geographical centre, is the perfect place.

It used to be known as the agricultural capital of the island. If I would speak about the history of Sineu I could fill pages and pages, that’s why I think is better to make a small summary for all of you. It is a capital of agriculture, tradition and character. Is stately and possesses great beauties spots which should be visited by everyone who comes to the island and who wants to get to know how the people from the “Pla” live (‘Pla’ is how the central plain of the island is known locally). Sineu invites us to visit many points of interest and great architectural and artistic beauty – its houses, its streets, its way of life which is reminiscent of an unmistakable Mallorcan medieval, noble and stately lifestyle.

The first thing which attracted my attention in this village was the main road from Palma. If you come on it to see the town from the Capital, you should know that the road from Palma to Sineu is known by the name of ‘Old road to Sineu’ (Camí Vell) and used to join the island capital and the ‘payesia’ (country area) or rural world.

To get to know this route through the municipality of Sineu well, I recommend you to go on a Wednesday and as an idea I propose you to eat at one of the ‘Cellers’ (ancient wine cellars). At these modern day restaurants, the best dishes from the traditional Mallorcan cuisine can be tasted: ‘frito’ (fried meat and vegetables), ‘arròs brut’ (dirty rice), ‘porcella rostida’ (roast suckling pig) and if you go on the hunting season, you will probably encounter some hunters sitting at the tables having a mid morning or mid afternoon snack or enjoying themselves bragging about their skill or moaning about their bad luck in the forests and woods of the area.

Sineu is also proud to be the capital to the Spring Fairs (“Fires de Primavera” in mallorquin) with Sa Fira, celebrated every year during the 1st Sunday of May. Also, every Wednesday during all year round Sineu has it own market having place at the main square, well known by the locals all around the island and highly reccommed among other Mallorca markets. The village comes alive each Wednesday morning and its weekly market is visited also by thousands of tourists and locals. Being situated in the centre of the island, Sineu is ideally located for those wishing to explore the whole island.

It also means there are no beaches in the immediate area, so for those looking to spend a relaxing holiday on the sand should consider the closest one which is Can Picafort (around 20 min by car) if will not absorbed meanwhile by the charming city vibe. Sineu is a village that is sure to appeal to those seeking a more reserved, quiet holiday on the island. Steeped in history and full of traditional appeal, the more authentic side of Mallorca awaits the visitor. If you wish to experience complete solitude, then there is arguably no better place on the island to visit than Sineu, a village tucked right into the interior and a place very much of its own unique kind. Grab your most comfortable shoes and be ready to explore its beauty.
