This is in one of the most beautiful parts in the south of the island which has many varied landscapes from agricultural ones that haven’t changed for many years, beaches, view points along the coast and the beautiful tourist town of Colonia de Sant Jordi. Due to the beautiful unspoilt landscapes that are found in this area, Ses Salines has been designated an “Area of Special Scenic and Rural Interest” and close by there is a great nature reserve where you can see some wonderful species of birds and plenty of exotic flora and fauna surrounded by outstanding views of Mallorca’s countryside.
In a few words, Cap de Ses Salines, Mallorca’s southernmost point, is another good spot for birdwatching. The nearby saltpans act as a magnet for migrant waders and wildfowl on their way from Africa to their breeding grounds in Europe each spring. The town itself is a pleasant place to spend some time with its long straight Roman built streets and its historical Santanyi sandstone buildings glowing like gold in the sun.
The main atraction of the town is undoubtedly the early 20th Century church dedicated to Saint Bartholomew which is not only a local landmark but also provides a reference point to sailors off the south coast. Ses Salines is very much a residential town so you are likely to find adequate amenities for year-round living as well as everything you need for a holiday. In Ses Salines you will find old town houses, small shops and bars were you can visit, relax and have fun. Numerous festivities and open air concerts take place on the main square in front of the town hall. The beautiful, natural surroundings allow for many enjoyable activities like hiking and biking with many very flat areas and cycle paths to explore. The rocky coastline is perfect for sailing, kayaking, snorkeling, scuba and other watersports. There are also many beautiful neighbouring towns worth visiting like Colonia Sant Jordi. Nearby historic, rural towns similar to Ses Salines include Campos, Santanyi and Sa Rapita. You will find also many excellent restaurants to choose from including Restaurant Es Pinaret which I consider to be one of the best on Mallorca – a real hidden gem. This southern region of Mallorca is both unspoilt and incredibly picturesque, making the Ses Salines region a perfect place to visit with excellent historic and modern attractions and some of most unspoilt beaches that you would find anywhere in the Balearics. The town itself is a good choice if you are looking for natural, beautiful and magic surroundings.
