This region has a truly varied landscape with hills and mountains, cliffs and beautiful beaches, coves and fertile fields. Portals Vells lies on the South West coast of Mallorca approximately from 22km from Palma de Mallorca. This small secluded village is located nearby to three beautiful beaches – Portals Vells, El Mago and Playa del Rei. The Portals Vells beach is the largest of the three.
The beach has fine-grained sand and is surrounded by pines. The water is diaphanous and usually calm. Being one of the more relaxed beaches, Portals Vells is popular among the locals, especially in weekends. You can choose between two parking areas, both close to the beach. From here you can reach the large tourist centres of Santa Ponsa and Magaluf by car in around quarter of an hour. Apart from a small nudist cove, the village’s main attractions are the spectacular cliffs, the caves and the pine forests that line the coast and contrast so beautifully with the deep blue of the Mediterranean sea.
For this reason, the village is an ideal spot for artists working with watercolours. The village also boasts four natural coves with lovely stretches of beaches in between.
Close to both Port Adriano and Puerto Portals, Portals Vells is popular with day trippers arriving by rental car from Palma as well as yachtsmen and women, who sail here from other parts of Mallorca to spend a pleasant afternoon in the tranquillity of the coves and to explore the caves.
Without any doubt, Portals Vells is the right place were you can relax a whole day without getting bored. I’m one of those people who loves to sit in the sun all day but, I never standand in one place. I always travel from a famous town in a quiet village and in this way, I find the most surprising places in Mallorca. This location preserves its original charm and you will see as soon as you travel here how remarkable it is.
