The location is 400 meters above sea level and is the main stop between Es Capdella (7 kilometers away) and Puigpunyent (4 kilometers away). Being a great choice for a day trip destination, this place it’s also a fantastic base for exploring the Tramuntana Mountain range on foot. This village attracts hikers, tourists, artists and people who simply come here to stroll through its streets and contemplate nature enjoying some silence not far away from Palma.
The center of the village contains traditional houses built around the Immaculada Concepció church, an 18th-century historical building with a large cobbled terrace out front, from where you can look down over rolling hills to the Mediterranean in the distance. Also there you will find a bar restaurant that is the main meeting place, both for the locals and the tourists but also for the holiday makers that are visiting the area. Other than the church and a couple of tapas bars, there is not really anything much to do in Galilea – a trip here is all about the peace and quiet (and of course, the incredible views).
The village itself is rustic and sleepy with many beautiful properties dotted around the surrounding hills. When it comes to places to stay, the best known hotel in the area is the Scotts Galilea which is set above the village and overlooks the church and village centre. This hotel has a well deserved reputation for excellence and quality. If you’re looking for a relaxing vacation, Galilea is a hidden and undiscovered little hideaway, far removed from the busy beach resorts and modern hotels around the coast which makes it perfect for any expectations. There are spectacular views over the Calvià coast, the streets are quiet and the air is fresh. Galilea is not a major destination but is well-worth a trip if you want to experience authentic rural Mallorca in the shadow of the magical mountain known as ‘the Galatzo’. 🙂
