The village is situated on the southern part of Mallorca’s east coast, within the district of Felanitx and around 70km (about 44 miles) from the airport, the journey taking anything up to two hours. This traditional fishing village has a lot in common with many of Mallorca resorts but it has retained its original charm better than most and has resisted to the aggressive development. As a result, this place is a pretty, simple resort that offers a peaceful setting for relaxed family holidays with a distinctly Spanish flavour. Talking about flavours, here you’ll find most of the restaurants in the Porto Colom’s marina.
The dining scene here ranges from family-run eateries to contemporary places with in-house cocktail bars. As you’d expect, the seafood is great but it’s the cutting-edge cuisine that sets the village apart from the crowd. As an example, go and try the delicious octopus with almonds, beetroot and walnuts, or try it on a pizza, in tortellini or as a mousse. Sa Llotja is one of Porto Colom’s finest restaurants and is located by the towns marina. Serving fresh fish and Mallorcan meat dishes, the restaurant offers both ‘a la carte’ and also a weekly menu of chef’s specials. Along the main road, Carre Vapor Santueri, into the Porto Colom seafront is the modest and traditional restaurant of Es Pamboliet.
There are plenty of cafes, bars and lovely restaurants including many around the harbour area, so you will have plenty of options for dining out. As in many other locations of Mallorca, you will find some amazing seafood restaurants serving the catch of the day. Here they serve up their traditional paellas and other traditional Mallorcan dishes.
After a great meal, a shopping around the harbour area it will relax you. There is a fair selection of shops for the everyday holiday essentials along with more souvenir shops behind the beach at Cala Marcal. Speaking to the beach, Cala Marcal is a blue flag beach that is very pretty, with soft sands that shelve gently into the warm and clear sea being very safe for children. Around the beach you will see a handful of shops selling holiday essentials, beachwear and souvenirs, plus supermarkets for all you might need. The nightlife in this sleepy resort is so relaxing but it is also very quiet. Little cafes and bars overlooking the picturesque bay will provide delicious meals of mouth watering tapas or the freshest sea food and very reasonably priced wines and beers. An annual fiesta ( party) named – La Verge del Carme, takes place in July and if you’re lucky enough to be around in that day you’ll see another side of Porto Colom that it normally has. This is a location for families with young children, couples and really anyone who likes the quiet life. Whether you’ve decided on a last minute holiday in this wonderful place or you’ll visit in the coming months, here you’ll will find the haven you are looking for.
