For those who are looking a relaxing holiday on the island in a quiet and special location, Campanet might be one of the best place to stay. To be more precise, Campanet is a sleepy “pueblo” in the north east of Mallorca. This charming and traditional village is far away from the busy tourist spots and is part of undiscovered Mallorca. The settlement has been inhabited since the Saracen and Roman times. Despite being small, the area is well connected by road networks to most of the big towns and coastal resorts and as such, it offers an authentic Mallorcan experience.

Like so many other municipalities on Mallorca, Campanet lies partly in the mountains and partly in the lowlands. The actual town of Campanet is in the pleasing position of being in the middle so has the best of both worlds and is noted for its network of sloping roads. When it comes to the main attraction of this village, you have to know that it is its intrinsic beauty. It definitely has a specific charm of its own. It’s a pleasure to walk around its narrow, old, traditional streets and genuine island architecture.

While you’re visiting you’ll see that seemingly, all the roads will lead you to the large main square known as ‘Placa Major’ where the imposing Baroque church of ‘The Immaculate Conception’ dominates the skyline. This impressive church dates back to the 18th century. Also here you’ll find the Caves of Campanet, situated on the north of Mallorca in the foothills of the Tramuntana mountains. The caves cover a surface area of approximately 3,200 square metres at a depth of 50 metres and if you ask me, this place is great to explore.

The caves are noted for the fineness and richness of their calcareous deposits in the form of stalactites and stalagmites. This place is so beautiful that have inspired painters such as Casimir Tarrassó who dedicated a series of signed oils to them in 1948 and poets such as Bartomeu Guasp i Gelabert who composed the ode “Caves of Sant Miquel” (1949).

As activities, there are also good places for hiking in this region of Mallorca. Cycling is also very popular on the island and you are likely to witness large groups of cyclists, particularly in the winter months. But being still in the season, if you feel like a day at the beach, the major resorts of Alcudia and Pollensa are very within easy distance. Also, having excellent road links means that great food is very close by in these two resorts of Alcudia and Pollensa. Offer a chance to any new place in Mallorca, you’ll gonna love it!
