Imagine an island with turquoise-blue seas, secret coves, soft golden sands, lush green foliage, rugged mountains, picturesque villages and a vibrant capital city. Well, this island’s name is Mallorca and thanks to its many charms, more and more people are visiting all year round. Choosing where to stay depends on the type of holiday you are after and what you want to see and do from the hustle and bustle of Palma to the dreamy coastlines or the get away from it all luxury escapes inland. As a good example, the town and municipality of Campos is the perfect place to enjoy the rural splendour of south east of Mallorca and visit some of the best beaches that the island has to offer. This place is situated almost midway between the towns of Llucmayor and Santanyí in the south east corner of the island, approximately 40km or 25 miles east of the capital Palma and the Son Sant Joan International Airport.

It’s a small and quiet town with a lot to offer to the occasional visitor, especially on the busy market on thursdays and saturdays and the odd fiesta and village fair that run periodically throughout the year. Is the administrative centre for this corner of Mallorca with responsibility for one of the more renowned beaches, Es Trenc. This beach is probably the biggest reason people come to the area around Campos and as a result, there are a number of very good rural hotels to stay in.

Campos retains much of the charm of old Mallorca with is winding streets and traditional stone buildings. The earliest records of Campos date back to 1300 AD when the town was founded by King Jaume II around earlier Roman and Saracen settlements. Set in rural surroundings, it’s a friendly place with a smattering of interesting shops, restaurants and excellent bakeries. You can visit a lot of things among them being the Museum of the Parish of St Julian and the Sister Mary Rafela Museum. Art exhibitions are sometimes held at the Casal Can Pere Ignasi. Most of the attractions surrounding Campos are natural. The town allows good access to national parks, forests ,mountains and as I sayd above the renowned beach of ‘Es Trenc’.

Behind Es Trenc is a channel that leads to the Es Salobar wetlands nature reserve that is second in size only to the Parc Natural de s’Albufera, which lies on the north coast of the island between the resorts of Alcudia and Playa de Muro. The south corver of the island is home to the best beaches with kilometres of long white sands and pretty turquoise coves. Several are backed by nature reserves so remain unspoilt and peaceful places to relax. The nature reserves themselves are great places for walking and bird watching. Inland the south’s flat agricultural landscape makes it ideal for cycling with endless kilometres of country lanes linking sleepy ancient towns and villages. It is also home to the most varied nightlife with top quality restaurants and a host of late night bars and clubs. Therefore, here you’ll find everything you could want on a vacation. Once you had the chance to relax on the beach for a while you may feel like something more active and you can see all that this town can offer you. This area is ideal to enjoy a few days of peace and quiet!
