When you think of Mallorca, do you only think of a sandy beach in a hot summer? There are a lot of amazing places in this perfect season where you can explore the interior of the island without feeling the lack of the seaside. Being a fantastic place located in the southern part of the island, Llucmajor is a municipal town close to Palma on just 15 kilometers from the airport. Situated approximately 15km inland from the coast, it lies adjacent to the neighbouring towns of Campos, Algaida, Sant Jordi and the capital city of Palma.

Is one of the favorite place to choose as a travel destination because is full of tranquility and charm making it a perfect location for all the attractions that Mallorca offer. Strolling down the streets of the town, you will see some great old mansions dating back from the 1800’s from when Llucmajor was a major industrial area with both wine and shoe production. Somewhere around the core center of the city you’ll find a great statue of Prince Jaume, son of King Jaume III on a horse carrying his fathers dead body while showing the flag of Mallorca.

In case you didn’t knew, King Jaume III was the first real king of Mallorca and fought for the independence of the the island. This is a huge part of the isle culture and the citizens of the town are very proud to live in this place. Another major attraction you’ll find also in the south of Llucmajor itself, the amazing remains of an ancient village dating back from talayotic times (some 800 BC), the Capocorp Vell.

In the municipality of Llucmajor there are several restaurants that will allow you to experience some real Mediterranean dishes accompanied by some great local wines. Those in search of more sophisticated gastronomy can enjoy some of the excellent food available at nearby boutique hotels in rural locations. Llucmajor is attractive and is quite the most popular destination, a lot of people traveling here to enjoy nature’s own offerings all year round.

There are many things to do in the area as its golf courses at Son Antem and Maioris were you can play all day long. Another side of fun are their parties. During the year there are several fiestas in the area including the most famous during the second week in August named the fiestas of Santa Cándida with cultural events and the parade of the spectacular paper maché giants with enormous heads. Llucmajor is certainly a town that holds its own nature of attractions. It is very likely that a holiday here would suit all. Numerous activities offer the chance to relax and gives a pleasant variety to the range of historical attractions located in the town. For this reason, Llucmajor is a town that would hold most appeal to those seeking a quiet holiday, happy to explore at their own leisurely pace.
