Mallorca is not only Palma or the impressive beaches of the island . Is the most rural and beautiful area, hiding so much vitality in their parties. Listen my advice and go to the interior of Mallorca because you will be surprised by its people, traditions, gastronomy and customs. Therefore, today is about the Mallorca’s fairs and markets. There is even a special event dedicated to potatoes and I will tell you how it went my first experience. Potatoes are one of the main staples of the European diet and if this rich vegetable is your thing, then Mallorca is a good place to live in. The potato night fair is celebrated one more year in Sa Pobla, after the success of the last edition.

Sa Pobla is in the northern part of the island and year after year they celebrate in summer season a Fira Nocturna de la Patata – a gastronomic Tour de Force of potato bliss. The fair of Sa Pobla celebrated in the month of June, takes place for two days and the bars and restaurants as well as other groups of Sa Pobla elaborates varied menus giving these two nights a special gastronomic motif with the potato as main protagonist. More than 40 different potato dishes can be tasted in about 25 participating bars, cafés and restaurants. On this occasion, this summer season more than thirty establishments will join the initiative of the population and offer local and visitors the best recipes made with the star product of the town.

The cultivation of potatoes is one of the most important in the Balearic Islands, both for the labor it generates and for the economic yield that is obtained from it. Most of the production is destined for export although in some places is maintained a second harvest in summer, mainly destined to the internal market.

The potato that grows in Sa Pobla is famous and has among the most exquisite palates not only in Mallorca, but also in countries such as Germany, Holland or Sweden, where is also exported. The Plaça Major de Sa Pobla becomes a great showcase where are shown the endless culinary possibilities of the local product par excellence. It’s a great opportunity to discover this typical vegetable and new recipes to delight with. There will also be a fair with samples from the main producers and exporters such as Uco sa Pobla, Illacamp or Viuda d’Antoni Serra along music and children’s entertainment with ludic activities and musical performances.

Continuing on this line, if you are near to the nightlife of Sa Pobla try dishes as original as the potato pizza with ham, potato cake with spinach and shrimp or a refreshing potato slush.

The official timetable of the fair lasts between 19 to 24 hours and when the heat goes down, is the perfect time to stroll quietly through the streets of the locality, although there will be activities and fun throughout the day. No matter what time you’ll choose to wander the streets of Sa Pobla and taste their delicious dishes, enjoy your holiday and the wonderful Mallorca in all its splendor.
