I have lived here beautiful experiences , thanks to the people and also , their amazing traditions . I feel passionate about Mallorca and I want you to experience the best of what the island has to offer with all of you . Therefore , today it will be about the most important day of the Easter – The Holy Week or Semana Santa . Mallorca is filled with traditional rituals and processions to mark the Passion of Christ .
The most significant and memorable take place in Palma but , wherever you are on the island , there are events to observe or participate in .
Located at churches across the island , a week of solemn Easter preparation begins on Palm Sunday , when palm and olive branches are blessed before being taken home to adorn front doors . It is custom to keep the palm branches at home to ward off the evil eye over the following 12 months . During Holy Week , the processions take place daily in Palma , the biggest being on Monday and Thursday .
Mallorcans also like to celebrate Easter with chocolate . Walking around , you’ll soon notice that all bakeries and sweet shops have lots of chocolate figurines for sale . These chocolate figurines are called Monas de Pascua and are the perfect souvenir for the kids . The tradition says , that godparents are to buy one of these for their godchildren on every Easter .
They also , love their food and therefore any festivity is a good excuse to eat . Easter is no different , so while you’re on island , you have to try some of these delicacies !
Try their panades , the Mallorquín version of a pie and also you will love robiols , half moon shaped pastries with a variety of fillings . If neither of these is not to your taste , then try making crespells – traditional Mallorcan biscuits with different shapes. The kids will have lots of fun making them and you’ll have a nice treat after all that hard work ! With pleasant temperatures and nature in full bloom , spring time on Mallorca is one of the loveliest times of the year and a splendid time to visit or explore somewhere new !
