On just 40 minutes drive from the ultra modern and efficient international airport from Palma, Banyalbufar is a small village hidden in the famous Serra de Tramuntana Mountains between Andratx and Pollensa. This quaint Mallorcan district nestles in the middle of four smaller peaks where scattered farms and vineyards scale the heights around the historic town centre. The resident community of Banyalbufar is small but this area boasts many visitors attracted by the island’s hidden places, steeped in history and authentic Mallorcan culture. Banyalbufar clings to the western coastline of Mallorca on a steep hillside that falls into the sea.

Glorious views of the Tramuntana mountains and the sun setting into the sea awaits you here. The access is by small and windy coastal roads – in particular, the road to the south of the village. People from all over the world come to Banyalbufar to see one thing and that being its terraced hillsides, sloping down to the sea.

Is a great deal to come here, of course for cyclists and hikers too because there are plentiful paths to explore. As well as winding village streets and historic agricultural systems, there is the working fishing port of Es Port de Canonge and a number of coves and beaches for sunbathing and swimming. These includes: Cala Banyalbufar, Es Corral Fals and Son Bunyola. For the less active you can admire the view, try half-day trips to Valldemossa, Esporles or Estellencs.

There are many small hotels to choose from in Banyalbufar and Estellencs including rural and boutique type hotels plus cheerful B&Bs and hostels that are simple and traditionally decorated with of course, wonderful sea views. How everyone wants to have some fun when they go in vacation, in this place is an annual Jazz festival held at the Baronia Clouster with a number of free concerts during July and August. As important as the fun, the food from this part of Mallorca is incredible. There are a surprising number of bars, cafes and restaurants to choose from to suit a variety of budgets. Highly recommended is 1661 Cuina de Banyalbufar, a German family run restaurant that I personaly consider as one of the best on the island (don’t be deceived by appearances) where the food is amazing! The journey to Banyalbufar and its surrounding villages is an attraction in its own right. Enjoy the magnificent views along the winding roads which stretch down to the breathtaking coast, with mountain peaks and dramatic rock structures. You will love it!
