What can be more beautiful on a beach day than to admire a sunset listening the waves that relax you while you’re sitting on its fine sand? 🙂 The truth is I don’t know what can be equated with the sunset, especially when we have the opportunity to look at it from the seashore. The landscape is so magical that I could start my days like this for every morning of my life! So if you are like me, a long life lover of the Mediterranean Sea, then you have to spend your holidays next to it in a special and quiet place like Portixol situated on the island of Mallorca.

This location is a district that once was an old fishing village standing proudly looking out to the sea by a tranquil harbour on the edge of Palma. Situated just to the east of Palma’s cathedral, Portixol is home to a little bay that has calm clear waters and a beach which is only about 100 metres long and 20 metres deep. Beside of its amazing beach, is a very popular place for locals and tourists to spend their free time either relaxing in the cafes and restaurants or walking, jogging, or cycling along the cycle track long for many kilometres.

This charming little village has recently moved from “up-and-coming” to cool in it’s own right and the sea front properties and former fisherman’s cottages have become highly sought after. Some of the colourful houses have been converted into stylish restaurants and others have remained unchanged combining the old tradition with modern style and comfort in a unique way. Over the years Portixol has enjoyed significant investment and improvements becoming one of Palma’s coolest hang-out places and most sought after the suburbs.

Its proximity to the city centre and airport makes a prime location with its mix of smart restaurants and bohemian bars making it a hot-spot for visitors and residents alike. In a few words, is a place where you can’t get bored. Apart from eating, drinking and enjoying the beach, there are plenty of things to do. Portixol offers the perfect starting point to explore the city, the port of Palma or just enjoy the water activities on the beach. If you want more than that you could hire a bicycle or Segway and explore the coast line. When it comes to “party”, the night life in Portixol can also be very lively, especially in the during peak season. In this place everything is possible. 🙂 So, if you are looking for a special vacation, travel in this stylish and sophisticated place with its excellent restaurants and bars and a chilled yet vibrant characteristic. You will love it.
