Best attractions in Mallorca for this season

Mallorca, the largest island in the Balearics may make you think of beach resorts but there are plenty of other ways to enjoy both its coastline and the interior – particularly in spring, autumn and winter when is less crowded and the temperature is more suitable for outdoor activities. This pearl of the Mediterranean is a mini continent in its own right, boasting consistently impressive scenery as diverse as it is beautiful. One idea would be to spend a week exploring the Palma, a vibrant, bustling city rich in history, culture and impressive architecture starting with the imposing La Seu Cathedral, its standout feature.

Also you must visit a few of the wineries in the centre of the island where local traditions are as strong as ever. The second place where you can see unique landscapes is Serra de Tramuntana – on foot or by bike. This mountain range, running down the west of Mallorca has been made a World Heritage Site in recognition of the extraordinary techniques used to develop agriculture on its steep slopes over the centuries.

The Royal Palace of La Almudaina proudly sits beside Palma’s iconic cathedral and is officially a royal residence even today but even so, the gardens are open to visitors most of the year. There is also a number of ancient ruins on the island. The most famous are those of the Roman city of Pollentia which has been preserved for almost 2000 years.

Stone buildings, courtyards and cobbled paths are all identifiable. Bronze Age settlements like the impressive Ses Paisses can also be visited.
